The aim of scientific training is to complement and specialize the academic scientific training on one or more themes related to the thesis topic, in agreement with the thesis supervisor. The minimum duration is 40 hours.
This training can take many different forms:
- Training courses lasting more than 6 hours, explicitly aimed at PhD students and delivered by recognized scientific organizations;Summer schools or thematic schools (participation may be covered by the ED, see the funding procedure);
- Scientific training (for PhD and/or postdoctoral students) organized within European networks;
- Scientific training organized by the Doctoral Schools;
- Training organized during certain high-level scientific conferences;
- Master's level courses in science or engineering schools (second cycle).
- You can find some examples of Master's level training programs on the Lyon - St Etienne website at this link.
- MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), limited to one MOOC outside of the University of Lyon (UdL), and noting that a 20-hour limit applies for validation, meaning that a MOOC longer than 20 hours will only count as 20 hours.
These are not validated as scientific training:
- Training courses lasting less than 6 hours;
- "Technical" training on software, hardware, instruments, etc.
- Continuing education, in-company training, etc.
- Stand-alone seminars;
- Participation in a conference, working group, or research group;
- MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) beyond the quota of one;
